We like ... Nest Chair

Swedish designer Markus Johannson created this Nest Chair

A piece of nature moves into mankinds cosy homes and breaking up straight, rigid and traditional forms, a place in the home where you can curl up to a period of rest, or for a fairy tale moment, an orderly chaos of pegs that have been transformed to both an asymmetric and symmetrical furniture.
A playful and imaginative process has been the starting point to find a functional whole. The furniture is made of flat round pieces and composed entirely of free forms without any “correct” angles, and of course, environmentally friendly, it is made entirely of wood.
We like his style and see a beautiful resemblance with our Linen birds Nest Cushion.

The Renovators

Bandhini's quilts were used in the latest episode of The Renovators!
Team Khaki won using our white quilts in the yellow room. They are a deserved winner in our opinion. Although our Dupion Orange quilts look quite good in the orange room as well.  What do you think?

Coffee Shops

These are the networking hubs off all business people alike - whether its discussion about some great business idea, meeting people for the first time, deciding upon what to wear on the weekend - it is truly a close knit pod of people discussing there agenda's so everyone that is sitting in a 4 mile radius will either not even care what they talking about or be  listening so intently with there provisional senses while punching away at there keyboard, ipad, blackberry or tablet.

It's a strange delight, that could positively be the next big thing on reality TV - 'HUB' the modern day desire for that next big break!

Just a daily dose of cake from which a thought deserved to be shared!

Softly Spoken

Tai and Bandhini are featured on the homepage of Home Ideas magazine!  Read Tai's interview below.
Passionate about design, Tai Schaffler left her career in journalism and became the marketing manager for a Western Australian fashion wholesaler. Frequently travelling to India as a buyer, Tai saw the opportunity to start her own homeware label and soon after, Bandhini Homewear Design was born! Producing quality, handmade soft furnishings, Bandhini is a popular fixture in homes across Australia and New Zealand. Tai talks to Selina Gordevich about pursuing her dream and the joys and challenges of working in India.
Three words to describe Bandhini Homewear Design?
Unique, cultural, family-based.
Tell us about Bandhini Homewear Design.
Our principles and values are drawn from the families we work with and our designs are inspired by the elements nature provides us. All our products are designed in Australia and conceived in India; this relates to our name, Bandhini which means ‘bind’ – it’s a binding of cultures across the globe through the common heritage of weaving textiles. Bandhini is more than just beautiful products, it’s a process driven by passion and shared goals. We conceive everything we weave, embellish and button, and we nurture all the families who work with us.
What inspires your designs?
Anything from things I have seen throughout my travels to colours or concepts seen in fashion – everything and anything has the potential to be designed into a cushion!
Greatest challenge?
The two worlds; India, where things take time and life is less complicated, versus the demands and deadlines of the West.

About Tai Schaffler
Born in Alexandra, New Zealand, Tai trained as a journalist – first gaining a scholarship to study in Thailand and then completing journalism studies in Christchurch NZ . She has written for Auckland’s Inner City News and worked as a journalist in San Diego, USA. Leaving writing behind, she became the marketing manager for a Western Australian fashion wholesaler, travelling to India as their buyer. It was during these trips to India that Tai saw the possibilities of creating her own textile label and, not long after, Bandhini was born! Tai’s passion for interiors is clear, and as she says, “life is way too short not to do what you love.”

Silver Lake

A colourful, delight - Put simply a Rainbow of art, how a-fitting we ate lunch at the 'Local' - a organic cafe proving a chicken and curry sandwich which despite its advertising looks had to be eaten nothing or less with a knife and fork - Not out of an ordinary that is, as the Locals of L.A expect nothing less than portion sizes which unfortunately, can't be grasped with two hands - oh and don't forget the soy latte which could of at least provided the necessary coffee fix for a small pride of humans.

Nevertheless it surely had me on my way - L.A a cultural display of houses within houses, cities within cities, Silver Lake is no small example of this;

I might be an outsider, not yet considered a local, however graced with time, effort and persistence - The Local might just find me.

Bandhini in the USA

To be completely honest things within the US market seem to be no light task in what is developing a small family Australian Business into a global international company. The excitement of exploring and educating an American mentally to our products and services within Bandhini can and will be both a rewarding and possibly ground breaking experience.

As our movements have been noted at the recent Trade Fair in Las Vegas, It has set about introducing our brand and image, which is Bandhini.

It was a great time to speak with industry representatives, develop and build relationship however more importantly understand our visions and goals for the next coming months.

Our Bandhini discovery will be a journey - However give nor take, stumble and stand tall, it is journey which will simply add to our Bandhini life experiences.

The comments where all fresh and positive - by far the most loved storey would have to be the earthy, organic Champagne collection - Americans are very much highlighting the importance of supporting companies which are eco friendly and which produce bio degradable products.

They loved the appeal Bandhini has, not only with the way in which we create our creations however, the connection we have with families to which deliver our concepts.

Design and Decoration

Tai Shaffer’s gorgeous and exotic designs were also a hit at the fair with just part of her Summer Collection on view.

Bandhini has a fantastic website which features each individual product in detail and some terrific YouTube Videos showing behinds the scenes videos of past and present season collections and also the making of their products.

It’s well worth a visit and very inspirational.
